Put the litter box where it can be easily accessed by your cat and where she wouldn't be disturbed going to the litter box.
We had a very good experience with the following types of litter:
-Swheat Scoop (natural weat-based litter);
-Feline Pine (pallets).
Keep enough litter in the litter box for the cat to be able to cover her excrements. The odor is controlled easily if your cat's litter box is cleaned on a regular basis. We recommend doing it at least once a day. We remove the waste in small zip-log bags, which are thrown after in a covered trash can.
For Feline Pine litter we use special litter boxes, which consist of two trays (one put inside another).

The top tray has a screen-like bottom. When pallets are wetted they fall apart into dust. This dust falls through the screen of the first tray into the bottom tray. All we need is to clean hard waist from the pallets and clean the bottom tray from the dust.
At least once a week clean the litter box itself, emptying the litter box from the litter and cleaning it with some kind of disinfectant. We use bleach diluted in water in approximate proportion of 1:20 (1 part of bleach and 20 parts of water). It kills bacteria, viruses and fungus. |
