Nail Clipping
To save your furniture from scratching the best decision is to regularly clip your kitty's nails. It should be done about once in two weeks.
Use special pet nail clipper that you can find at any pet store.
Put your kitty on your lap and hold it tight but do nor hurt her. Take the paw and slightly press on the finger. The nail will come out.
If you look closely at the cat's nail you will see that it consists of two parts - the nerve part and the nail part (see the picture on the right). |

Cut out only the end of the nail. You don't want to cut the quick (nerve part) because it, first of all, will hurt the cat, and also it can get infected.
We are against declawing! It is cruel and inhuman procedure that is absolutely unnecessary. It involves amputating part of cat's paw and causes pain.
The best alternative to it is clipping cat's claws on a regular basis and teaching your cats to use scratching posts. |
